Attention as Prayer
Six Weeks of Learning to Notice God’s Presence
This six-session study invites you into the practice of holy attention — learning to recognize that God is always present. Together, we explore how attention itself can become prayer.
Each session includes a short teaching video, a downloadable discussion guide, and reflection prompts to help you retrain your awareness and grow in noticing God’s steady, quiet presence.
Attention as Prayer Study Sessions
Learning to Notice God’s Presence
In this opening session, we explore the simple but transformative truth that God is already present. Practicing attention as prayer helps us notice what has been there all along and grow in our capacity to be present for others.
Session 1
Praying with our Breath
This session introduces breath prayer as a gentle way to anchor our awareness in God’s presence, learning to let each inhale and exhale become a quiet prayer.
Session 2
Session 3
The Prayer of Examen
We discover the historic practice of the Examen, reflecting on our day with honesty and gratitude as we look for where God was present and at work.
Session 4
Lectio Divina
In this session, we practice slow, attentive reading of Scripture, allowing God’s Word to shape us through listening rather than striving.
Praying with Our Body
We explore how posture, movement, and physical awareness can become prayer, honoring the body as a gift through which we encounter God.
Session 5
Praying with Distractions
Rather than fighting distraction, this session teaches us how to gently return our attention to God, discovering that even wandering thoughts can become invitations to grace.
